Before you can set up a Point, you must contact a Fidonet Sysop (BossNode) that supports Points. S/he will be able to give you information such as your Point address and a password that is required to set up the Point software and mailer. You need two programs to run PPoint and Irex for an "Internet Only Point" in Fidonet. You can find the PPoint software on the "Point" Page. Get the Internet Rex Program here(get the Windows version). We'll start with the setup of PPoint. Create a directory on your "C:" drive named ppoint. Place the PPoint zip file there and unzip it. From a Dos Prompt, change to the PPoint directory that you just created (cd/ppoint) and type ppoint.exe. Reference the links above for screen shots of the setups as they are mentiond. For any portions of the setup not referenced choose the defaut.

Reference the "Mailer Screen"
This is important. Be sure to do this or things won't work at all correctly. :(

NOTE!: Irex is a shareware program. The author is a great guy and you can use the unregistered version forever if you wish. If you like being a Point and like the Irex program, please register it and help the shareware concept. Now, on with the show. :)
You should have a copy of the latest version of Irex. If not, go get it. :-) Once you get the current version (2.29), reference the above screen shots and follow the below directions. It's not that hard, although it may look that way at first.. :-)First, Create a directory under your PPoint directory called irex. Unzip the Irex zip file to that directory. Change to the Irex directory and type "rexcfgw" and press enter. Starting from the first screen you see:
WOW! You're done. :-) When you start PPoint, it will do a scan of the message base and then call Irex to poll your BossNode for mail. When Irex exits, PPoint will toss the mail and you're on your way. :-)Well... Almost. You will need to Netmail your BossNode and ask for a list of the message echos available to you. You will also need to ask your BossNode how to `Areafix' the echos. I'll not try to explain the `Areafix` concept here. After all, the BossNode needs to have something to do, right? :-) Some final notes: The Irex setup has a help feature built into it. You can access this for help with any part of the configuration by pressing your <F1> key.Have fun!! :-)) | ||||
